Although the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon, above, is the finest carillon I know, there are are other fine carillons around the world. Wonderful examples include the carillons in Ultrecht and Amersfoort.
I stayed in Amersfoort on a Saturday night so that I could listen to a summer carillon concert. To my surprise, however, it was impossible to listen to the concert from the town square. There wasn't anyplace to sit! Even though it was July, there was an additional problem. It was so cold that evening that I listened to the concert from a crack in the window of my hotel room. It was so chilly I couldn't open the window all the way.
The concert, however, sounded wonderful!
