After Claude Monet bought a house in the small town of Giverny, he developed an extensive garden. He also constructed a Japanese-style pond, which he proceeded to paint for the last twenty years of his life.

Before visiting Giverny, I wondered why Monet had dedicated so much time to his lily pond. After visiting Monet's estate, where I shot at least three rolls of film, I wondered why Monet hadn't spent thirty years painting it instead!
