In this sweet store of motherly love, Rosario takes a job in LA to try to pave a better life for her son, never realizing the depth of sacrifice for everyone envolved. The film realistically portrays some of the reasons immigrants risk everything to come to the US. Adrian Alonso is especially charming as the young son. Kate del Castillo. Dir. Patricia Riggen.

**** The Sea Inside (2004). Original title: Mar adentro. Moving film, difficult to watch, based on a true story. Ramon Sampedro is a quadriplegic who's ready to die but has to fight political bureacracy and deep-rooted cultural traditions. His firm claim that living should be a choice rather than an obligation forces the viewer to review his or her own values. Javier Bardem. Dir. Alejandro Amenabar.
